Madrassa Collective is initiating a specific edit-a-thon focused on Africa and the Middle East. Understanding that artist biographies are key devices embodying multiple cultural and geopolitical representations that shape the negotiated processes of visibility in the art world, the event invites the public not only to critically reflect on these dynamics, but also to proactively (re)write the history of contemporary art of these regions via the editing and/or the translation into different languages of a selection of artists’ biographies.
The collected material constitute a growing archive published on the web.

Rethinking the Art Museum: D-CAF's Visual Arts Programme 2017 (in English)

Intimate and private conversation with curator Berit Schuck on her current project, D-CAF's Visual Arts Programme. Articulated in a solo show by Italian-Libyan artist Adelita Husni-Bey, an ongoing action by Romanian artist Manuel Pelmus called "Museum of Contemporary Art" and an immersive installation and research project by British artists Noor Afshan Mirza and Brad Butler, the programme seeks to look into exhibition formats, protocols and categories of the art museum in general and more specifically in Cairo. It aims also at being a self-organised critics platform and a programme of lectures, artists' talks and film screenings.

Those Who Remain (in English)
Wiame Haddad is an artist who works between France and Morocco. After graduating from the École Supérieure d’Art et du Design in Valenciennes, and studies at La Cambre in Brussels, she began an aesthetic investigation into the image of the body, between Eastern and Western societies.
She will join Madrassa Collective during Supermarket Art Fair to present her portfolio, videos and projects. Those Who Remain is a research, photography and video project that takes up the stories of former Moroccan political prisoners.

14:00 Intimate Meeeting with Jake Wiener

As an emerging filmmaker and artist at the Fresnoy - Studio National in France, Jake Wiener has been following and filming the evolution of the Atelier de l’Observatoire since his first visit to Bouskoura in 2013. Using hand-processed Super 8 he has documented observations and personal moments at the residency, the building of the Greenhouse in Hay Mohammadi, a visit to the abandoned municipal aquarium, and other scenes from around Casablanca…
During the fair, Jake will present these images, along with scenes from past projects and previews of his work in progress, as a way to start a discussion about the importance of amateur filmmaking and the continued use of artisanal techniques and processes.

We proudly present Supermarket Magazine 2017. We recommend all visitors to get a copy in order to get an overview of the big fair (74 exhibitors) and read interesting articles about this year's theme - "Intimacy".
