NIIGATA EYA is an art gallery established in Niigata, Japan, in 2000, jointly run by nine ‘viewers’ and having held over 680 exhibitions to date. At SUPERMARKET 2025, we showcase the project 'imitsu' (i fulfilling), which Tokyo‑based artist Minoru Sasaki has been developing since 2015. The project consists of drawing signs of イ (the Japanese character for the /i/ sound) as representatives of human beings; Sasaki inscribes structurally almost similar but amazingly singular signs of イ, as if mirroring us humans, sharing commonalities while celebrating individual uniqueness. "I feel like I render our diverse torches of life animated by joy and pain," says the artist.
