The space that hosts MA Project is a former printing house at the foot of Perugia’s city centre, in Italy. Our name derives from a concept of Japanese aesthetics ‘MA’ shared by most Asian cultures. It can be translated as ‘interval’, ‘space’ or ‘pause’, and is expressed graphically with the kanji combination of door/window and sun. The heart of our space is, in fact, a window facing a void. The fascination with the word ‘ma’, meaning ‘but’ in Italian, indicating uncertainty, an adversative, delineates the idea that brings the project together: a set of visions that sometimes coincide, and sometimes are diametrically opposed, but which have one direction in common: no answers, only infinite new questions.
