Small Projects is an Artist-run space which organizes events and exhibitions, supporting works that challenges boundaries and promote critical discussions. We provide a venue for cross disciplinary intellectual exchanges and collaboration among the artistic community in Tromsø. Our goal is to provide an exhibition space for emerging and established artists with a program spanning solo, group, curated exhibitions, and performances. We would like to give special attention to artists living in Tromsø and the northern part of Norway, including artists belonging to the Sami culture and students of the art academy in Tromsø. Giving the possibility to exhibit at the Small Projects, and to exhibit in other artist-run spaces through exchange programs in Bergen, Oslo, Europe and Asia. Artist Jet Pascua began the Small Projects in 2001 in Manila, Philippines. It started with a series of events involving a diverse group of artists, filmmakers, poets and performance artists using different available spaces such as his childhood home and cafes. He moved to Norway in 2003 and continued organizing exhibitions and performances taking place in different spaces. In September 2010, the Norwegian Arts Council gave a 3-year grant to Small Projects.
