Studio 44
Stockholm, Sweden
Studio 44 is an artist-run gallery based in Stockholm, founded in 2001. The gallery organises exhibitions, workshops and guest lectures featuring Swedish and international artists, and engages in exchanges with artist-run initiatives worldwide.
At SUPERMARKET 2026, the exhibition is hosted by Studio 44 member Penja Hesselbäck. The booth presents an exposé of a fictitious yet dynamic and visionary chapter in film history – an introduction to the life of an artist who never existed, yet is imagined to have had significant influence. The project centres on the concept of ‘Cinéma Exhaustif’, combining a silent film with newly composed music and a museum-like installation where objects from past, present and future coexist. Fact-based fantasies and deliberate inaccuracies form a constructed cinematic universe.
