Oksasenkatu 11
Helsinki, Finland
Oksasenkatu 11 was founded in 2008 representing a different view and mode of operation in the Helsinki art scene. Oksasenkatu 11 has been an artist-run, non-profit gallery from the start and does not charge any rent from artists which is by norm charged from the artist in Helsinki. The aim is to showcase experimental and ambitious ways of representing art without commercial attributes. The exhibition schedule is flexible, allowed to be set by the artist - a longer period of time can be used for building when necessary, which enables artistic solutions beyond the norm. The gallery’s work group at the moment consists of six professional artists taking care of curating and janitorial responsibilities. In addition to the planned exhibitions and events, open calls addressing various thematics are arranged to encourage new ideas and to address urgent standing matters. For the Supermarket exhibit OK11 is planning on doing an interactive video installation based on Ella Tahkolahti’s The Hub. The members of the gallery will be present at the showcase throughout Supermarket fair.
For the Supermarket exhibit OK11-collective is planning on showcasing an interactive video installation based on Ella Tahkolahti’s piece Hub, 2015. Hub is a study of the relation between space, image and spectator. The difference between presentation and representation. The three-dimensional and the two-dimensional. Mirror and light. The cave. The black square. Square. The hub of things and the world.
