Mustarinda is artistrun nonprofit association located in Hyrynsalmi, norht-east Finnland.
In operation since 2009, the Mustarinda aims at preserving the diversity of nature and culture by bringing art, science and organization people together for discussions, seminars, exhibitions and happenings. Our goal is to create an environment for new ways of thinking and cooperating. Mustarinda Foundation is ideologically independent. The Foundation was established as we became worried of the decreasing ecological and cultural diversity all over the world

The old forests of Paljakka are in part in natural condition and therefore offer a rare opportunity for observing the nature’s own form language, structure and operation. It provides a wealth of topics of interest for researchers and artists alike, and we support a change of ideas between these two groups.

The core of the operations of Mustarinda Foundation is the Mustarinda House and Artists in Residency Project at the top of Paljakka hill in Hyrynsalmi. In addition to regional activities, the Foundation participates in national and international projects. Mustarinda is in cooperation with Finnish Academy of Fine Arts, HIAP (Helsinki International Artist-in-residence Programme), Cultural Association of Kainuu and Oksasenkatu11 (artist-run gallery and an artist collective, Helsinki)
