LMDP, L'autre Moitié Du Palais
Pontoise, Pontoise, France
The group LMDP (L'autre Moitié Du Palais/the other half of the palace) was created 10 years ago by Claire Roudenko-Bertin as a loose, independant formation uniting art students, former art students and artists in order to explore questions about how to make art and the uses of art in the contemporary world. And it is precisely through art that these investigations have been conducted, but always interrogating the recieved forms of production and presentation ("exhibiton", "catalogue", "curating" for example). The teaching position that Claire R-B holds in the experimental art school ENSAPC (Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Arts de Paris-Cergy) has been very important in providing a platform for the activities of LMDP. ENSAPC is in fact the youngest national art school in France (out of six), with a specific mission to develope experimental approaches, including (as with this group) questioning the institution itself and promoting independent and "off-shore" platforms for art. In the last few years the various actions and interventions of the group have included workshops in South Korea (2007) in China (2008, 2010 and 2011), participations in "Evento 2011" in Bordeaux and in the Triennale de Paris in 2012. A preliminary workshop was also held in Stockholm in February 2012. The aspiration of this engagement is to create a set of tools which would validate a certain idea of solidarity and awareness in art and via art.
