Kunsthuis SYB is an Artist Residency based in Beetsterzwaag, in the northern part of The Netherlands. SYB offers space, stimulus and support to artists so that they can develop themselves through means of research, experimentation and new collaborations. Artists are invited on the basis of a project proposal to stay in the house for several weeks, to work and present their work in the shelter of the Frisian rural village Beetsterzwaag. SYB invites artists to respond to an annual open call and offers two kinds of residencies: -Residencies for visual artists, curators and artist initiatives living or working in the Netherlands -Summer residencies for foreign visual artists and initiatives Artists are not obliged to produce a fixed artwork but are encouraged to converse with professionals and scientists from different fields to broaden their network do research and to share their work process. Every resident is guided by a member of SYB´s programming committee. SYB´s programming committee consists of artists, curators and art historians. SYB also works with a group of young art critics and writers who write a text or review about each residency project.
