Connemara, Ireland
Interface is an artist-run space based in Connemara, Ireland, providing opportunities for artists to explore intersections between science and art with a focus on ecology. At SUPERMARKET 2026, Interface presents a duo exhibition combining ‘metallic(Y)’ by Martina O’Brien and ‘Seed Study’ by Christine Mackey.
‘metallic(Y)’ examines the accelerating extraction and consumption of so-called ‘green’ rare earth metals, juxtaposing electronic music with historical references to precious gems associated with extreme wealth, royal power, and social status from across the globe due to their rarity.
‘Seed Study’ begins with Mackey's seed collection as a platform, the generational material that embodies many invisible active players. The work is presented through a series of black-and-white analogue photographs, developed in a bath using a non-toxic homemade brew of seaweed and peat water.
