The Alpineum Produzentengalerie, which has been operating since November 2007, was initiated by ten artists from central Switzerland. The gallery contributes actively to Lucerne’s cultural life by offering discourse and debate concerning contemporary art and its practices. The Alpineum organises 9 exhibitions annually in which the artistic positioning of the founding members as well as those of invited guest artists from Switzerland and abroad are shown (this guest progamme is called "Alpineum Inn"). Extra activities such as lectures, artist talks, video screenings and performances, often in collaboration with other artist–run initiatives, accompany the exhibitions. In addition, a limited edition of a magazine highlighting the art on view in an individual form is published with each exhibition. Monthly to bimonthly meetings provide the platform for its members to discuss the gallery’s programme, its organisation, its economy, and to reassess the gallery’s direction.
